Have you LocaWoka-ed recently?

I still remember that bus ride to Markham about 2 years ago when I heard two teenagers discussing how cool it would be to “get a listing of jobs around you”. Both were commuting from Mississauga from a job that they could reasonably find in their neighborhoods as well. After a fantastic MaRS engagement, countless meetings with our advisor, Nathan; several startup competitions; generous grants; great support by friends, family and strangers; the entire team at AppLabb, a humbling Google NEXT cohort, media mentions in Techvibes, Huffingpost, CBC Radio, The Auroran, Aurora Banner, and more — and several pivots – LocaWoka launched this early Fall!

LocaWoka is about empowering you – and the communities around you. Our mandate is “get things done” – but it transcends beyond that. It is neighbors helping neighbors. It is instilling local commerce. It is knowing that your neighbor 2 houses down (or 2 floors up) can help you mount your TV or prepare dinner. It is about you getting lunch for a busy exec in downtown between classes at Ryerson to make some quick cash. It is about you helping — regardless of which side of the transaction you are on.

Delegating comes easy for some. For some, it’s hard. If you haven’t read so, I strongly recommend Tim Ferris’ “The 4-Hour Workweek“. Your life will undeniably change. Spend time on things you truly love — as our time on this planet is limited.

Since you have already downloaded the LocaWoka app and are registered, I suggest you post a task today. If you haven’t, download and register today . The whole process takes less than 5 minutes.

Here are a few examples to get your noodle thinking:
– rake leaves
– wash dishes
– clean car
– write a resume
– home organization
– walk the dog

The possibilities are endless. Best of all, it is FREE. You pay no commission or fees. Here’s another offer to sweeten the deal: post a task today and if it is successfully done, we will mail you a $10 Tim Hortons or Starbucks card. All we need is a task completion confirmation on our Facebook page.

If you are looking to help someone, browse through the listings and apply. Meet new people. Discover new stuff. Explore your neighborhood.

If you don’t have an iPhone, iPod or iPad, no worries. You can write to us at hello@locawoka.com or call us at 1-844-LOCAWOKA (562-2965) and we will help you post or find a gig around you.

Wishing you success,
